In the most recent Indian Super League 2022-2023 season, the NorthEast United FC went on a losing streak, losing eight of its eight games. By dropping every game in ISL history, it appears that the NEUFC has made history.

After the squad lost all twelve games and failed to score in any of the games during the ISL 2022–23 season, head coach Marco Bulbul was fired.

Out of 20 games played during the last ISL season, 2021–2022, NEUFC only managed to win 3, lose 12, and draw five times, which was not excellent for the team.

The previous losing streak record was held by the former Delhi Dynamos in 2017–18; they were renamed Odisha FC subsequently.

To reach the halfway point, the team must put in a lot of effort in the final twelve games. Additionally, they must win their next game by scoring a point, at least temporarily.

The following reasons are certain barriers to the team’s potential realisation:

THE TEAM DOES NOT HAVE A VISION OR A PLAN.

This is the absolute truth: if you want to remain powerful and competitive, you need to have a long-term strategy. The NorthEast United FC has internal problems, and given their recent losing run, it’s imperative that they improve their strategy.

Only two of the club’s ten coaches have guided it to the knockout stages of the Indian Super League’s last eight seasons. The club manager doesn’t have enough resources to make plans. As a result, the club lacks a vision and strategy, and as a result, the team is never adequately prepared.

OWNERSHIP ISSUE WITH THE TEAM

As one of the original teams in the Indian Super League, North East United FC faces a challenge. Because all the other clubs are owned by corporations. These clubs have received support from numerous sponsors. However, there is still only one owner of NEUFC.

Additionally, due to financial constraints, the club is only able to think about short-term plans and cannot consider long-term strategies. The Indian Super League is all about money, and a team won’t be able to support itself and compete well if it doesn’t have enough money.

UNDER-UTILISATION OF RESOURCES

The Northeast is the first place that springs to mind when we discuss football. And the Northeast is where you may find the most talented and abundant football players. And the club was unable to use that, failing to make advantage of the available resources. The resources are available to every other team, unlike NEUFC, which has struggled to attract outstanding players. Talented players must be included by the club, and they must be kept hidden.

NOT ENOUGH YOUNG SPIRIT

The NEUFC has failed to include it, and they didn’t even send the young players to the RF Developmental League. In contrast, the other Indian Super League clubs are doing that. Due to a shortage of young talent in the club, it is one of the few organizations that does not send a team to the Developmental League.

And this may be one of the factors influencing young people’s preference for other ISL teams over NEUFC.

Therefore, the Northeast United Football Club lost every game for the aforementioned reasons. They frequently switch coaches, and because they lack the resources to engage in a bidding battle with the other Indian Super League clubs. They hardly ever succeed in signing their main objective.

If NEUFC wishes to remain competitive in the League, they will either need to have a substantial financial backing or find another way to do it by trading their finest players to other ISL teams.
